Starphonix is an award-winning close-listening game in which the player replays the blackbox of a spaceprobe. Acting as the probe, the player attempts to negotiate interstellar peace using dynamically modulating phase tones. A very skilled player can win without having to look at the screen.

Starphonix was a 48-hour game jam project that won the Intergalatic Fantastic Gamemaking Frenzy at the 2013 Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.

I worked with Damien DiFede, who provided coding and audio design, while I did the core design, UX, UI, user testing, and art. Our inspirations include the concept of audio tones as a communicative and emotive medium, the very first scene in Ridley Scott's Alien, and analog video glitching.
